huli huli chicken recipes

This recipe for huli huli chicken, seasoned with a sweet and smokey sauce spiced with ginger, is the ideal way to bring the flavors of Hawaii straight into your home.

Ingredients:

  1. 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  2. 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  3. 2 large garlic cloves, minced
  4. ⅓ cup low-sodium soy sauce or tamari
  5. 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  6. ¼ cup brown sugar
  7. ¼ cup ketchup
  8. ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  9. 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  10. 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  11. Vegetable oil, for grill grates or pan

Instructions:

Step:No:01

Prepare the marinade. In a small saucepan, warm the sesame oil over medium heat. When the oil is shimmering, add the garlic and ginger and simmer for one minute, or until fragrant. Add the ketchup, rice vinegar, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and soy sauce and stir until well blended.

Step:No:02

Create a slurry by combining the cornstarch and ¼ cup of cool water in a small bowl. Stir the sauce in the pan after adding the cornstarch slurry. After bringing to a boil, lower the heat to medium-low and simmer for three to four minutes, or until the sauce is thick enough to coat the back of a wooden spoon. Take off the heat source.

Step:No:03

Spoon out and set aside ½ cup of the sauce in a small bowl. After five minutes, transfer the leftover marinade to a big basin and let it cool. Toss to coat after adding the chicken.

Step:No:04

Preheat a grill pan or gas grill to medium-high heat. Apply the oil to the grates. Grill the chicken for four to six minutes on each side. After flipping the chicken and cooking it for two to four minutes, brush it with half of the saved sauce. After two more minutes of cooking, brush the chicken with the remaining sauce. When an instant-read thermometer registers 165°F inside the chicken, it is done. Move to a sizable platter.
